I’ve been curious about this for a long while, what is the difference between democrats and republicans? Seriously. I can’t seem to get a real answer from anyone. I continually ask my dad, who is a black hole of information, and the only thing he can seem to come up with is, “republicans are the good guys.” It’s like an instant headache to get an answer like that when you really want to know. It seems like nothing more than, republicans are pro-life, anti-gay, church-going, fundamentalists, and democrats..well, are the opposite. But isn’t there so much more? How did we decide on our votes before, abortion, drug issues, and social security benefits?
Half of the people my age (23) either don’t vote, or don’t know why they are voting for the person they are voting for when they do. I wish we were closer to an election time, so that I could walk up to someone my age and ask them to give me five reasons why they are voting for who they are voting for. Am I boring you? I think I’m boring myself. Ok, here’s some definitions.
Republican:
supporter of republic as government: somebody who believes that the best government is one in which supreme power is vested in an electorate.
Democrat:
supporter of democracy: somebody who believes in or supports democracy or the democratic system of government (oh yeah, that explains it)

I finally found a good answer to both sides in
wikipediaI'm content. You can check out the ideological base on either
democrat or
republican.
When I posed the question I ended up finding a gold mine of quotes, and I got sidetracked. Some are amusing, and some are just scary.
“Democrats have no qualms about about recreational drugs. In fact they think the use of such drugs is cool.”
“There are huge differences between the Democratic and Republican parties and the people who are members of them. To suggest otherwise is naive.
Democrats are for the working people in this country.
Republicans are for the rich and powerful.”
"I think the puppet on the left shares my beliefs.
I think the puppet on the right shares my beliefs.
Hey! There's one guy holding both puppets!!!"
“Republicans-stupid, democrats-evil”
“For the record, I used to be a Democrat, switched to Republican in '96, and since this fiasco with governmental centralization since 9/11, I am not voting anymore.”
